(A discussion of how the story Hope by David T. Hilbun changes people’s thoughts towards storms.) There are those of us who have experienced extremely tragic things in our young lives. These horrors can consist of anything from the death of loved ones to destruction related to nature which is what Hilbun’s story was all about. The posttraumatic feelings and emotions people have after events happen can be life changing and those people may never be the same again. Everyday we are shaped further into who we will become in the future. A close reading of Hilbun’s, Hope, attaches readers searching for understanding, makes people prepare more seriously, and makes everyone aware of the destruction storms can cause.

Hilbun, does well. After reading this story, you may take into consideration just how much those families can lose in a natural disaster. “But worse, they saw a huge fallen tree. Sticking out from under it was a human arm.” (Hilbun, page 681) This quote goes further into detail about all the chaos that the storm caused. A huge tree had fallen on a human and they lay there dead for everyone to see. Although it is a matter of opinion, that is probably the worst thing a family could lose, a person. Living in Wyoming leads most of the people around here to become blind to what those who live in areas with hurricanes or tornados have to deal with. We will never know the panic and anxiety of living in those areas with the exception of being in a lighting storm up on the
