The first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about gender differences in regards to “hooking up” is the old saying that girls are from Venus and boys are from Mars. Now I get that men and women are actually both from Earth, but when it comes to sex games and intrigue both sexes defiantly seem to be coming from different planets, maybe even different galaxies. From personal experience, whenever a girl friend tells me she wants a wild night out on the town or wants a “no-strings attached” one night stand it’s usually right after a fight or break-up with their significant other. This, to me, sets the stage for the next guy she meets to be a rebound guy, so even if the “hook up” was what she wanted, it wasn’t positive because she wasn’t …show more content…
For them, it’s all about the release and pleasure. Now, that’s not to say that some guys can’t be emotional or that girls don’t go for sex just for the physical reasons, it’s just that for the typical “hook up” experience, guys who know they want a one night stand or just a fling are better at keeping that perspective than a girl. Girls tend to over analyze everything and read their emotions into what they believe the other person is thinking or feeling. When you factor in societal and cultural norms about how men and women are treated and viewed when they “hook up” with someone, the gender differences become even more skewed. It’s one thing for a guy to brag to his friends about how many girls he’s slept with, but if a girl tells her friends that she’s in the double digits, well now, that might just earn her a “You slut!” from her friends. Slut, harlot, and whore are just some of words used to describe a woman who enjoys and embraces her sexuality. Unfortunately, history is littered with items, words, and beliefs that all condemn a woman’s desire for

With hookups, women have to worry about rape, gossip, pregnancy and other casualties that may stem from the encounter. Thus, distracting them and preventing them from reaching optimal pleasure. Yet, studies show that the ignorance of the female primary sex organ is the cause for the shortfalls of the female orgasm. To say that casual sex is the cause for the orgasm gap is just another way to exonerate men from being at fault for their ignorance in sexual satisfaction.…

These lyrics from recent chart-topping singles “Promiscuous Girl” and “Fergalicious” show the prevalence of the word “promiscuous” within contemporary, western society. As reflected in these songs, individuals use the term interchangeably with “slutty” and “whorish” to describe women who regularly have sex with numerous partners. Lacking objectivity and negatively portraying the subject it describes, “promiscuous” carries a powerful, derogatory connotation. The usage of “promiscuous” as a pejorative term, however, is not a new phenomenon spurred by hip-hop stars.…

Women who engage in hookups regularly are more likely to be labeled whores, and stigmatized as sexually loose rather than men who engage in similar behaviors. On college campuses, young women are more vulnerable and they are more likely to be troubled by the ambiguity of a hookup. According to multiple studies conducted by Bogle (2008), young women tend to have low self-esteem because they seek commitment from hookups, rather than young men. Females prefer a sense of security which often means having a steady boyfriend. “When asked about relationship goals, men’s goals usually involve some type of sexually accomplishment, whereas females focus more on companionship, nurturing, and adventure” (Bradshaw, Kahn, and Saville,…
