Sex and the civil rights that surround it are a hot topic in our nation, especially on college campuses. Whether it’s a conversation between two students or a school campaign on sexual education, the topic is always in the air. In a social setting, the conversation is normally dominated by a male, boasting about one of his bedroom engagements and how “good” or “bad” it was for him. Yet, one rarely hears how “good” it was for her? Why is that? Men have been in the limelight of society for generations. This claim also argues that hook-up culture places a lot of baggage on women, inhibiting them from relaxing and orgasming. With hookups, women have to worry about rape, gossip, pregnancy and other casualties that may stem from the encounter. Thus, distracting them and preventing them from reaching optimal pleasure. Yet, studies show that the ignorance of the female primary sex organ is the cause for the shortfalls of the female orgasm. To say that casual sex is the cause for the orgasm gap is just another way to exonerate men from being at fault for their ignorance in sexual satisfaction. Just because the sex is casual, does not mean that accountability for mutual pleasure should be lost and each partner needs to communicate how they plan on achieving this. It was seen as “liberation of monogamy,” therefore a betrayal of the husband, and consequently initiated the removal of the female orgasm as an acceptable action. Thus, as time progressed, society forgot that the female could feel pleasure and allowed the orgsm gap to emerge and widen. The implications of sex education is needed to resolve this issue but that alone will not get the job done. The gap will not be closed until the male centered society we live in, alters the view of women and their sexuality. This begins by ending the stigma of women being whores for engaging in sexual activity and other situation that would be perfectly normal or even celebrated for males.
