Hoodwinked

“Will you shut up?” I muttered into my pillow, knowing full well it was no use.
Ding dong! The doorbell rang again loudly.
Grumbling, I reluctantly pushed back the covers, slowly got out of bed, and stumbled into the doorway. Taking as much time as I dared, I tugged the heavy door open, and what I saw made me gasp.
About a dozen disgusting men stood on the welcome mat, spraying it with a cloud of dust. Each of them had different revolting features, such as grey skin, green toenails sticking through holes in their shoes, and eyeballs that rolled in opposite directions.

Bang! The ship tumbled onto a rocky surface.
Then, without warning, all twelve men drew heavy pistols . . . and pointed them at me.
“We lied!” bellowed the leader before I could say anything. “Your mother knew our secret! She knew we were aliens from this planet! So we came here to destroy her—along with her beloved, scrawny daughter. There is no escape, no one to save you!
“So . . . you aren’t a murderer?” I peeped timidly at my mother in utter disbelief. So much had happened in the past hour.
“No,” my mother replied softly, shaking off her gag. Then, she added, “Brace yourself. It’ll be over quick.”
An atrocious alien with decaying skin and dry hair tied my hands behind my back.

One: The Great Divide Inside her tiny pale boxlike house with the iron gate and brown door Ester bolted up right her heart palpating quickly from last night's dream and not knowing for a moment where she was. Gradually as the haze lifted and her pulse slowed she rolled over propping herself up on an elbow, "Momma I saw giant red hot flames rising out of smokestacks and soaring in the sky. " she yawned she wiped the sleep out her eyes and glanced at her fragile mother who was bent over placing items in a satchel. "What are you doing momma?" She inquired.…

The wind caressed my cheek in a soft embrace as it blew cold wispy kisses on my skin, the dark had taken over about an hour past, and the sky was filled with dazzling stars and a moon so ominous it sent chills down my spine. The ships had set sail this morning, leaving my home behind in hopes of a brighter life, a better future. As I had taken my first step onto the old ship, the floorboards creaked and groaned reminding me of the home I left. I looked out, marvelling in the darkness that surrounded me. The dancing stars were the only light I had, but back at home I had no other source of light either.…

My most valuable possession was my house. It wasn’t anything fancy or exquisite, but it was there that I had spent the precious moments, however few, with my beloved dad. I remember that we would spend hours playing, running around the arched, brightly lit corridors. On either side, I recall the large mahogany doors which would fluidly open to reveal ancient, chestnut-brown rooms with antique, twin bed frames which were confined within. I will never forget the uncanny gargoyles that were suspended onto the wall behind, the very same monsters who would assault my sleep and curse me with countless numbers of sleepless nights.…
