Honors Program Journey

Improved Essays
The Honors Program has been a journey over the past year as I have been becoming increasingly involved in my project, academic community, and the honors program at large. The role of a scientist in the world has grown progressively clearer for me. The experiences leading to this evolution of definition have been my interactions with peers within and outside of my field, role models in science, and pure experimental experience. The most impactful interactions with peers have always corresponded with some explanation of what my work has consisted of. Specifically, the interaction with peers outside of science that was most informative for me was the first time we presented on our projects to our honors class. While there were some science-based

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

To be quite honest with myself, I really am not sure why I’m so intrigued to apply and be part of the honors program at DePaul University. I’m an undergraduate who’s feeling so anxious but yet so terrified of being in college and not in high school. Just like any other undergraduate I want to fit in and have a lenient 4-year college experience. But that’s not enough for me because I’m extremely aware of my capacity not just as an individual but also as a student. I’m someone who enjoys the thrill of being challenged, why?…

I used to be a member of the National Honor Society in J.W. Sexton High School. We met twice a month to discuss about volunteering opportunities such as volunteering in the 40/8 veterans organization, which I helped out from time to time. In the 40/8 veterans organization, the people who work there make food for veterans to eat. I help out by washing the dishes. I also help out my church by assisting and participating in holiday plays, arranging food to be served every other Sunday, and maintaining a clean environment for the church.…

This chapter began with the brief history of the PSC profession, which I found to be very interesting! I was unaware that the space race had encouraged PSCs to push students into science. I’m curious what the current “push” to guide students into is. In my opinion, part of my job is inspiring children to get outside so they will be good stewards of the environment. I believe scientific fields will become increasingly important as we invent new ways of living to decrease pollution and fix global warming.…

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…
