I feel the purpose of Honor Society is to recognize the success of students based on the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students that are proficient in their academics deserve to be recognized for their hard work and success. All members of Honor Society must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and this shows dedication and diligence to their academics. Honor society also promotes leadership among the community for students to achieve their full potential. Leadership also contributes to the implication of Woodinville’s school motto: One Falcon, One Family. The service aspect of Honor Society encourages students to give back to their community without necessarily receiving a tangible reward. Through service, the actions …show more content…
I have been a part of helping many organizations such as Teen Feed, Tent City, Operation Christmas Child, Heifer Project International, Hopelink, Seattle’s Children Hospital, and local food banks. Through Teen Feed and Tent City I have assisted in preparing and serving meals to those in need throughout the local area. With the help of some of my friends, we made fleece tie blankets that were then donated to Seattle’s Children Hospital. Additionally, to give back to the community, I have participated in multiple food and school supplies drives to collect items that were donated to Hopelink and local food banks. On a more global scale, through Operation Christmas Child I had the opportunity to pack shoeboxes with items for children that were shipped all over the world. These shoeboxes benefitted underprivileged children whose families unfortunately could not afford to buy Christmas gifts. Also, through Heifer Project International, I helped raise money that went towards buying farm animals that were then sent to other countries in order to support struggling families. I also have worked with Woodinville Little League in order to give back to the organization that started my passion for the sport of softball. I especially enjoy working with the young athletes, because I hope to give them the same opportunity I had to work with high school athletes, and to help them explore their

I believe that the all four pillars of the National Honor Society; Academic, Character, Leadership, and Service are all very important in today’s society. The first pillar Service is where students offer their time to the school or local community with out any compensation, and that is important to our society because it shows how involved, and dedicated, students are; how they are desired to work with the school and the community without getting rewarded or recognition of any kind. The Leadership pillar which is where one demonstrates leadership within the school community it’s key to society due to the fact that it will show that you, inspire others, contribute ides, that you are responsible, self- confident, and have the ability to act…

Though I have not always been consciously aware of the four pillars of National Honor Society, the ideas behind them are what have undoubtedly shaped who I am today as well as who I want to be in the future. The first pillar, scholarship, is important because a commitment to learning is what has made me interested in engineering and innovation. Additionally, scholarship has driven me to seek a meaningful post-secondary education where I can advance my learning to help better society. Service, the second pillar, has been important to my development because it has taught me that giving is more fulfilling than receiving. Moreover, this pillar has motivated me to construct a goal of serving in the US Air Force.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…
