Honor In A Thousand Splendid Suns

Improved Essays
A Thousand Splendid Suns is particularly a book about suffering brought on by the idea of honor and shame. For many, the word honor may mean high respect but to Islam, honor is “guarded, granted protection, and placed in its proper position that deserves protection and glorification” because, in the Islam religion, honor is one of the five necessities of life. So it makes sense, that in a book containing the Islam religion, honor and shame are important, and coincidentally, the reason for many rash decisions in the novel.

First of all I had a really enjoyable time reading the book, The Glory of Their Times, written by Lawrence S. Ritter. This book was simply about the author recording the memories of baseball players from the early 1900s etc. I’ve learned a lot from this book, it showed me that there is always a way to achieve your goal no matter who are you are and what you do. Some of the players had even gone through the Progressive Era, which was a time of social activism and political reform in the U.S. and to see the ball players go through it and struggle, really opened my eyes. Another major issue that most of the players faced was The Great Depression.…

Thomas Jefferson, the author of our great Declaration of Independence once said, “It is reasonable that everyone who asks justice should do justice.” As a progressive founding father, Jefferson sought this justice by means of freedom. Today, American society has grown from this freedom, and justice is usually sought from means other than an oppressive British Empire. We now consider justice synonymous to law; a duty and symbol of our courts. Justice serves the individual and the society as a guardian of life, liberty, and property.…
