Several schools have thought of implying an honor code into their school system in order to reduce the amount of plagiarism and thefts on campus. Although several individuals believe that having an honor code will not change cheaters or thefts mentality, having a student-lead system in school can makes students feel comfortable, influence them to reduce their act on plagiarism and stealing. Therefore, honor codes should be established, but not to an excessive point. In many cases, students have been caught cheating in school campuses which have led to the establishment of honor codes in order to reduce the amount of plagiarism done within students. Schools that have an honor codes strictly enforced but not excessive, leads to it being known as an “honest” campus. If a student who is known to be cheaters and go to school where the environment is known to be “honest”, it is likely that many students will “choose not to cheat even if they are innately [known as the] “cheater” type.” (Dirmeyer, Jennifer, and Alexander …show more content…
There have been several cases were schools that have enforced honor codes have been disappointed every once in awhile because they have caught students cheating. By having an honor code, plagiarism isn’t entirely deceased, but the number of students plagiarizing is reduced. Because plagiarism is “easier to do” (Khan, Chris) now a days due to the internet which “provides an inexhaustible source of information”, having an honor code can make a “school a richer academic environment.” (Khan, Chris) The honor code is a great help that many schools need in order to reduce the amount of not only plagiarism but also theft in school. Students should be able to feel comfortable while taking a test, and there should be trust between the student and teacher. Schools, especially high schools should consider having an honor code in order have a better environment and higher value in their school
