Academic integrity means honesty and responsibility in scholarship (University of Illinois). Academic integrity is important because you must be the innovator of your work. Students must hold themselves accountable for the work they do, and what they learn. Without academic integrity, a student’s degree will be a lie, due to copying their work through college. The student will not have retained the knowledge they should have learned themselves in college. A student can have difficulty forming their own opinions and answers about real world problems due to cheating. Clearly they will not be able to function in the workplace as their diminished learning will cause lower productivity.
