With no intentions of ever going to college, I almost blew off my eighth grade computer science class research project. The project itself was simple, research colleges and majors that sound interesting. No one in my family has ever gotten a formal education because of various reasons, I did not think I was about to break that chain. Sitting at my computer staring at the blank google home page I typed, “naval college.” What are the odds, I thought to myself as I pressed the enter button. Less than a second later I see the Naval Academy, everything from that day would alter the course of my future.
Thankfully I did not blow off that college research project. I actually researched more in depth than what the project asked for. Since that day

No matter how bad the situation may seem, there will be a positive outcome, no matter what. This attribute will remarkably be of value to me at the academy. Not everything will come elementary during the time I attend. Yet, with a positive attitude, anything and everything will be possible. There needs to be a positive mindset to consummate any goal, a mindset I obtain. Integrity is vastly important at the Academy. The honor code is what integrity essentially stands for. Someone who does not know me, should not question my integrity. I value honesty above most morals. As well as the fact that, not only do I value honesty and morality; but, I also put them into practice. Nothing is more bothersome than a hypocritical person, a person without integrity.
Nevertheless, even with a positive attitude and integrity, any of the service academies are going to strain each and every of the candidates. The single most challenging task I will have to adjust to, is not having everything perfect. My Blue Gold Officer said it best, “It’s sometimes better to have it done, than perfect.” I myself am a perfectionist, especially when it comes to math and physics. Plagiarism, cheating and academic dishonesty are some of the many topics discussed within Pace University’s Academic Integrity Code. The main purpose of this code is to create awareness on proper academic misconduct, deter plagiarism and to create procedures on how to handle misconduct. If a student is suspected of academic dishonesty, they will meet with the Committee Chair, where there is a possibility of resolving the issue amongst the student and complainant. Otherwise, the Committee will hold a hearing. Students who commit acts of misconduct are eligible to report themselves by a written statement to the Committee Chair.…

One of the main reasons as to why the honor code at Bartlett High School is lacking is due to the teachers not properly addressing it. Not only do teachers spend little or no time at all explaining “Academic Dishonesty,” the section itself in the student handbook is barely a paragraph long. Throughout my entire freshman year, plagiarism was addressed a few times in English class, but a full explanation of our honor code was never given. Surely, many students would give a similar response if they were to be asked how many times the honor code was addressed throughout their years at school. An article by Donald McCabe and Gary Pavela provides emphasis on this: “We believe it is significant that the highest levels of cheating are usually found…

I would like you as the audience to imagine yourself walking in the woods at night, all dark and alone. However, in the distance you see a feint light, as you get closer, the light starts to illuminate and you hear a chant of feminine voices, and suddenly the sight of what looks like the devil himself. Scary, right? Good day members of the IQ2 ethics organisation, as a man with an interest in fine literature, I highly recommend that The Crucible, by Arthur Miller should be studied by students in Queensland. Miller's allegorical play isn't just about McCarthyism but depicts hysteria and moral integrity.…

Cheating. A problem many face. A lot of high schools, colleges, and universities tend to install an honor code to prevent this. An honor code is a set of ideals that are placed to promote honor and integrity throughout a school. - P.S. at the beginning of the story is positive that he will pass the test, that is why he asks people do they know a certain Latin word or sentence (Bryan 152). However, when P.S. went to go back to his room and study, realizing he needed more practice, he would get distracted by looking at the window randomly and it could have been another reason for why he can’t conquer his nemesis (Bryan 153). His nemesis is Latin and if he wanted to, he could conquer his nemesis by staying in one spot and blocking distractions from his mind, but soon his studying time was a waste. In addition, when P.S. describes how his father is always disappointed in him and never shows love, that could have affected P.S.(Bryan 155). Meanwhile, it was time to take…

Trust is the expectation that another’s word, promise, or statement can be relied upon. Trust is engaging and essential in collaboration and to meaningful school improvement. I believe trust needs to be developed between and among staff members as well as between the principal, assistant principal and staff in order for teachers to embark on meaningful collaboration. Trust among colleagues and staff involves more than creating high morale; it is developed through ongoing interaction each day as people work together on improving student learning.…

In numerous high schools, the honor code is a set of rules that students pledge to follow in order to establish integrity and trust between one another. However, these schools often receive opposition to these codes because of the lack of enforcement in them. Such results lead to cheating, plagiarizing, and other dishonest methods; these actions tend to aggravate other students, and the aftermath is a detrimental school setting. As a result, the honor code should be revised in order to make it more effective among students in their educational environment. There are too many reasons why the honor code is not as successful in schools as it should be.…

I am offered help labs to have any of my questions about the class and the material answered. Unfortunately, I can’t make it to the help labs because I am a student athlete and it conflicts with my practice time. So, for an alternative I asked student athlete services to provide me with a tutor so I can get my questions answered. In the syllabus, it says that you should bring your work with you, and they will ask to see your work before assisting you.…
