According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, honor can be defined as high moral standards of behavior. At Oral Roberts University, being a person with moral values is essential to accomplish the goal to become a whole person. Striving to become a whole person is a way of life at ORU where students strive to become spiritually, mentally, and physically fit. The Honor Code is an avenue to help its students achieve success in all three disciplines. The Honor Code can be loosely defined as a code of conduct contract that ORU has its students sign in order to promote a lifestyle that is pleasing to God. The Honor Code prohibits a lot of activities that are standard in this time period, but that is to be expected since it’s the last days.
The purpose of the Honor Code is to motivate students to yield their will to God’s will. By denying our flesh, we say “yes” to God which allows us to experience an increased level of intimacy with God. One of the primary reasons to attend ORU is to truly know him: to know God’s ways, thoughts, will, and heart. Recently, I stopped associating with a girl from high school who now attends ORU as well. At first, I wasn’t speaking to her, because of hurt. However, I had to move on and forgive her for multiple reasons. First, if I don’t forgive her God won’t forgive me. Second, as humans, we all fall short of the glory of God. Third, I know it wasn’t her intention to truly upset me and end our friendship prematurely. Even though I never received an official apology, I choose to forgive her—daily. Walking in unforgiveness towards someone is more detrimental for me than it is the other person. After reminding myself that vengeance is God’s and not my battle to fight in the first place, it is easier to forgive people who mistreat
