Hongkham's Letter To Corinthians

Humans are social people. We naturally long for a sense of belonging and community. Communities are formed by a sense of love and belonging, and this feeling is ultimately what people are searching for. People want to play a part in something that has a purpose. Paul addresses this purpose when he compares the members of the Church to a body, saying that everyone has a specific function and that all the functions come together to make something beautiful. In his letter to the Corinthians he writes, "there may be no division in the body, but that the parts may have the same concern for one another. / if [one] part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy" (1 Cor 12:25-26). Laos is a country that has had its share of struggles involving children not getting the nutrition that they need (Stories of Hope, Week 2). CRS started a program that provides a healthy school lunch as an incentive for the schoolchildren to stay in school. A woman named Hongkham found out about this program. Her story tells us, "Hongkham found an opportunity to use her love of cooking to help her family and community through CRS’ school literacy and hunger program. She volunteers as a cook at her children’s school, which provides free school lunches for students, literacy training for teachers and principals, and nutrition training. Hongkham uses that training in the school kitchen-and when she’s cooking for her family at home" (Stories of Hope, Week 2). Hongkham is using her talent to help those around her. Through the program, her children are getting a nutritious meal as well as an education. She gets to help them grow up to be healthy children by doing what she loves: cooking. She has found a passion and is using it to make the world around her a better place to be in, just like the early disciples did in the Acts of the Apostles. The world has given her the opportunity to do what she loves in an environment that not only benefits her but makes a lasting difference in people's

Many Christians are leaving the church because of what they come across inside the church; they do not understand why they are going to church. Paul says we are predestined (Ephesians 1: 5 NKJV), God chooses us to salvation (2 Thess. 2:13 NKJV), He does not choose us to be lost, and He never condemns men who deserve to be saved (Rom. 9: 22 – 25). God determined ahead of time that all who would be saved would also be adopted into His family as sons, He could have saved us without making us His sons but He chose to do both. As sons of God, we belong to a family, so we are members of the body of Christ, for a church body to function properly; all of its “body parts” need to be present and working.…
