She wrote this memoir about her experiences of the Cultural Revolution as a young girl. Ji-Li Jiang was a science teacher in China before she came to the United States. She came to the US in 1984 when she was 30 years old. In 1992, she co-founded the East West Exchange in which helps businesses exchange with China and other countries from the US. Ji-Li Jiang did this until 2003 when she decided that she would want to start her own nonprofit organization. This organization would continue and expand the cultural exchange that she strongly believed in. Currently, Ji-Li Jiang is living in San Francisco. She was motivated to write this story about her life because for more than 20 years she told her story to others about surviving the cultural revolution. Ji-Li finally decided that she would put her story on paper for everyone to read about her experiences. After writing the book, she was invited to speak at several schools and conferences. The book has won multiple awards and is read by thousands of people. She also dedicates her time to cultural exchanges programs that people can get involved
