Hong Kong Beauty Care Injury Case Study

Introduction
Many accidents which are about beauty care injury are happened in Hong Kong in this ten years. In the serious case, people died after doing treatment in beauty care center. That most well- known beauty care injury case are DR Group Case. In this report, Hong Kong government role are used to look at this case. Some government problems are found from the background of the case and regulation on beauty industry are recommended to government base on literature review.

Background of case
A beauty care injury case which is about DR Group are reported in 2012. In this case, four women had cause injury after receiving DC-CIK therapy through the DR beauty center (Whiteman, 2012). One women died of septic shock and the other three had other

All treatment and products which might destroy the tissue and penetrate the blood vessel in human body are not allow to operate by beauty center. Chemical peels and Hydroxyacetic acid are the example of damaging tissue. Moreover, using laser to remove the skin surface and using credo blade to cut off the growth of skin tissue are also forbade in beauty industry. This legislation have shown that Maryland has clear separation on the term of “medical” and “beauty”. None of the high risk products and treatments which destroy human body are allowed to use in beauty industry. Treatments which may damage body tissue are only belonged to medical industry.

Discussion
The example of Singapore and United State are both effective to protect the safety of patient but the legislation in Singapore is more suitable for Hong Kong than the legislation in United State.

The example of United Stated can clearly separate the treatment in medical and beauty industry. However, as the number of beauty centers in Hong Kong are still increasing and they have already provided different kind of treatment which are including both high risk procedure and low risk procedure for the consumers, it is different for them to separate medical and beauty care. Most treatments in beauty center affect human skin. If Hong Kong Government have set up guideline to forbid all the dangerous treatment in beauty center,

The Medical Council of Hong Kong are also required to provide some short term courses about medical beauty treatment. This course can help both register doctor and plastic surgeon to gain more knowledge on medical beauty treatment including the risk factor, the procedure and the type of the treatment.
