The children's story about the "Lumberjack" is a fine demonstration of an example. In this story while cutting a tree branch the lumberjack accidently drops the axe in to the river. The man jumps into the river hoping to find the axe, but with shattered hopes the man gets to the river bank. At this moment the god of trees "The god Mercury" appears in front of the lumberjack. Lumberjack relates what happened to him to the god and god goes under water after listening to the man and comes back with a silver ax asking whether it was the axe. The lumberjack was an honest man. Therefore he told the truth and the god disappeared again in to the water and this time brought a golden axe. Still the lumberjack was honest and denied the ownership for the golden axe. For the final time the god disappears under water and this time brings the exact axe which the lumberjack accidently dropped. The honest man said "yes, that is my axe. Thank you very much for bringing it back ".The god was pleased with the honesty of the man and god was kind enough to bless the man with all three axes as a gift. Even though this is a folklore the advice that could be taken is far more greater than we realize and goes beyond age

After reading the article "Is Lying for the Greater Good Ethical" By Thomas G. Plante, it is evident that sometimes lying can be for the greater good because it can prevent other people getting their feelings hurt and being hurt physically . First the author states that, "Sometimes lying could be the more appropriate ethnical response to a ethnical conflict." "For example, if a friend of yours were to ask you "How do I look in my new outfit." "One might be compelled to tweak the truth to not offend or hurt the feelings of someone who matters to you". This means that a tiny white lie like this really isn't going to matter in any way shape or form.…

Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…
