I chose this book because and this historical area because I personally really like Ancient Greece. I have lived in 3 different continents and have traveled the world which consequently gave me a very broad perspective on different cultures and styles and Greek architecture is by far my favorite. It is very unique and has definitely carried over from ancient time to this day. This book by K.J. Dover is on homosexuality which also is a very big part of todays society and culture. We have come a long away accepting same sex marriage in our society today. Just 2 years ago we had the first every openly gay football player make it to the NFL despite all the negative critisicm and now more states are legalizing same sex marriage. Overall I thought that homosexuality is a very strong and broad topic and that combined with my interest in Ancient Greece and the Athenians is what drove me to read this book.

The historical part of Plato’s dialogues is that it allowed for people to have similar stories shared among their society. Vase painting were of popular cultural depictions of events so they showed what the society viewed as good and what was seen as popular. Scholars were a big part of greek life so poetry was also very big. It established ways to tell more stories and allowed another way for events to be recorded through this means of literature.
