According to Vice News, the “Kill the Gays Bill” is another name for the Anti-Homosexuality Bill (News.Vice.com). The reasoning for this “nickname” is that anyone found to be gay may be persecuted. Although this bill was turned down by Ugandan courts, many worry that it may be overturned some 2 years after its introduction. Abolitionists who are fighting against the law have said “What two consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom should not be the business of this Parliament. It is not right to have the state allowed in the bedrooms of people,” (Parliament.go.ug). Nevertheless, there are advocates of the bill who are still pushing with extreme force to get this bill approved, though they are facing trouble from the Ugandan gay community and its backers. For example, “While Western nations had made direct threats to cut off funding for Uganda, should the bill pass — a threat that was, at least to some degree, followed through on — Canada took it one stepped further, and committed cash to support gay groups in Uganda and neighboring Nigeria, in a direct response to the bill” (News.vice.com). It can be clearly seen that other countries care and as long as the members of the LGBT community keep rebelling against the government, progress will be made. Just the fact that there is a possibility of a law which persecutes people for being gay is unfathomable.
