The Obergefell v. Hodges decision by the Supreme Court has made it so that same sex marriage is now legal in the United States, a decision that has made history for not only the country itself but for the people who were affected by it and experienced it. Many are ecstatic about this recent change in law but we can also see how for many people who have a strong belief in their religion have also been affected by this recent change as well. In this essay I am going to be discussing Islamic law on the issue of homosexuality, what people are saying who are for it, what others are saying who are not for it, and lastly, what is my argument on the subject.
To begin with, when we take a look at the Quran, it doesn’t exactly come out with an exact position on homosexuality , but there are many verses that speak on sexual practices and in particular a chapter on Sodomy (Liwat) which are different sexual acts that I would …show more content…
For example, Quran 7:80-81 "Do you commit lewdness no people anywhere have ever committed before you?" "You lust after men rather than women. You are an excessive people." Also another verse says “of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, “And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay ye are a people transgressing. When we look to other religions in this case I will use Christianity and the use of the bible, I notice that there are some similarities especially when it comes to the topic of homosexuality because for Muslims their holy book is the Quran and for Christians their holy book is the Bible. The reason why I say that Muslims would argue that Islam is not for homosexuality is because according to the Oxford history of Islam it tells us that with Islam it is not only simply believing in the faith but also practicing it as well and the same goes for Christianity.
