Many believe this is wrong and these people should not be treated the same as heterosexuals. Others believe we are all the same and deserve to be given the same opportunities and rights. These certain rights and opportunities can be things like homosexuals being able to get married or adopt. The U.S. is a nation which is known for its freedom, influence human rights, and spread democracy. Although, the nation is still indecisive to allow homosexuals human rights to even adopt children. The point of adoption is to give a child the best home and parents there is but yet but, some adoption agencies focus on race and sexuality. Being a good parent has nothing to do with one’s sexuality but how you are raising the child. Some say same-sex parenting is harmful to a child but in reality the only harm that hurts the child is when people discriminate against the children for having homosexual parents. Research shows same-sex parenting create households built on equality, and are often more impartial when it comes to child rearing, household chores, and overall relationship maintenance. Others disagree saying same-sex parenting is harmful to the child and is changing society for the …show more content…
Certain people still have not contributed to the idea of homosexuality being “okay” which has made same sex parenting and marriage illegal in many more states. The argument states , studies may say same-sex parenting is just as equal as heterosexual parenting but, it’s usually because the studies don’t last long and are no follow ups. They use small samples in which the children are not in the household for very long and are assessed at a single time rather than a significant amount of time. The children raised in these households are more likely to suffer the experience of divorce and witness domestic violence. There being a divorce in these certain households can be more tragic for the child because they have already lost a biological parent which results to not giving the best benefits for the child. They are being raised by two fathers and won’t know what its like to be raised by a mother figure or vice versa. This can be compared to being raised by one single hetero parent. Putting these children under these homes can cause consequences later on as the child grows. One of these consequences can be that once the child is older they may want to meet their biological parents but access is denied because they are being raised by homosexuals. Diverse communities that deny these rights are not just thinking about the past and present but

There are also many children of same sex couples who go on to be psychologically healthy members of society. They are not traumatized by being raised by gay marriage but often end up being upstanding citizens who are more understanding and empathetic than other members of society. It’s also important to note that many children who identify as gay, lesbian or transgender or often physically, verbally or mentally abused by their parents due to their sexual orientation. Is it not better that they are raised in a home that nurtures them rather that a home that abuses them? It’s unreasonable to think that opposing sex couples are better suited to raise…

“It’s a shame that qualified families are being rejected from the process because of irrelevant considerations, such as sexuality” - Shannon Corregan. Gay couples are being rejected from adoption just for their sexuality. Although some say children need a mother and a father, Gay couples should be allowed to adopt. Laws have been enforced to ban gay couples from legally adopting a child. Children need both their mother and father especially girls during puberty who are more complex than boys. In most cases, children raised without a mother often tend to lack emotional security and advice only a mother can provide, and children especially girls who grow up without their fathers have no respect for authority and often engage in early sexual activity. It is also more than likely to occur that children who are raised in a homosexual environment tend to experience more hardships in life. It is also obvious that no matter how much love someone has for their partner’s children, there will always be a hole in the child’s heart, a hole that can only be filled with the other parent. Allowing same sex marriage is a burden because of the fact that it adds to the divorce rates in the system putting more children in danger of having a single parent.…

Some people say no matter what the child will be better off with straight parents rather than gay parents. However “Williams Institute confirms there is no difference in the behavioral outcomes of adopted children raised in same-sex households when compared to those raised by heterosexual couples” (Perry). Whether gay or straight it does not affect the children’s behavior or emotions. Even though the couple is gay the children will still be better off with them apposed to being in foster-care. The foster care system is unstable because children get passed around like a toy when it comes to foster homes.…

In a 2010 Australian study, the myth that children growing up in lgbt+ homes were more likely to have more mental issues than children with heterosexual parents, was proved wrong. They found that children of lgbt+ homes obtained a healthy and equal amount of self esteem and they spent the same amount of time with their families as children growing up to heterosexual parents. Children from lgbt+ homes are not corrupt, though they are seen as different from children with heterosexual parents which. They may be more prone to bullying due to what society thinks or children and parents who are heterosexual that show prejudice against these children and their families. That is the fault of societal norms, not lgbt+ parents.…

In the article, Laws Should Support Loving Households, Straight or Not, Becky Birtha discusses why the government should allow homosexual parents to adopt foster children. One of the main points she brings up is that, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “sexual orientation isn’t linked to good or bad parenting (2).” As an adaptive lesbian mother it is clear to see how Birtha, an adoption consultant, knows what she is saying through experience. Birtha even…

Even though the topic of gay parenting receives a lot of negative feedback, it still continues to acquire many advocates that continue to fight for the cause. Recent studies at the University of Melbourne have proven the claim that the children of same-sex couples have an above average rate of health and overall well-being (Holliday). When children in same-sex parent families were tested on general health and family cohesion they scored roughly six percent higher than children of traditional heterosexual families. However, when the scores were compared between children of traditional and nontraditional families (when the tests involved categories of mood, behavior, mental health, emotional role, and self-esteem) the results were equivalent…

America is supposedly the land of the free, but how are we free when there are people across the nation having their rights denied. Multiple states in the country ban gays and lesbians from adopting children. It should be that, as long as someone, no matter their sexual orientation, is ready to be a parent and be able to take care of a child, they should not be denied their human rights to adopt a child. There are just too many children without loving homes. According to the most recent "Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System" report, there were about 406,412 children in foster care in the United States in 2010 (AFCARS).…
