To begin with, it is said that “since the early 1900’s, the homicide rate has been on the rise in America”(Megan Sasinoski). It was hard for people to flee without being noticed and it was hard for someone to kill another person in a close-knit community like there…

Why Gun Violence Really Happens Violence is a huge part of everyone’s life today no matter what neighborhood you live in or what background you come from. All you have to do is just turn to your local or national media station, chances are that there will be something that shows up about some sort of shooting or crime. This constant showing of violence has made the general population desensitized to it. The question we are asking is why does so much gun violence happen? Although the news always tries to blame mental illness for shootings, they should be taking some of the blame as well because of how much they cover the events and how it could lead to copy-cat shooters.…

Kansas City is the home of many people, but how can it remain a home when a lot of loved ones are being killed or taken away from us into the system. Crime rates in Kansas City have risen, so between two solutions the broken window theory is better at stopping crime than mentoring because it lowers crime rates and improves the community. Nowadays it’s almost normal to hear of another death, or someone else being incarcerated. Those who commit crimes whether it be homicide, robberies, or assault are unknowingly ruining the place they sleep at night. Kansas City has a rate of 1,268 violent crimes per 100,000 people, yet the national average is 336 violent crimes per 100,000 people (NeighborhoodScout).…

Another factor that contributed to the increase of violent crimes was poverty, those living in poverty needed to earn a living given that there was a lack of jobs available people had to seek other means to earn a living.
