Many high school students feel that homework is an unnecessary part of the learning process, but most of all they feel like it shouldn’t be graded. It seems more like a chore to most, and not something productive that will help them learn. Don’t get me wrong, homework can be great for reinforcement but often it is covering things that students didn’t learn well enough in class or didn’t learn at all! I believe that homework can be better than what millions of teachers send their students home to complete every day. From my years of being a student, I have concluded that homework is given with the intention …show more content…
Some students may go as far as to say they hate it, and it might not be for bad reasons. Homework can trigger many emotions in the already confused mind of teenagers. Stress is one thing that I know people complain about. Most of the time it is due to having a lot of work to do. Having additional graded school work outside of school is not something that most students would like to have on their plate along with many personal extracurricular activities. When a student has to do homework that they don’t know how to do it can created a lot of uncertainty. This uncertainty may be in the way the material is being presented, or in their overall ability to learn. Homework can also be very damaging to slow learners. If a student doesn’t understand something in class and has to go home and do more, it can be very discouraging and can punish their grade as a result. First of all, homework causes stress on students. We may as well just spend all day at school if we are having school at home anyways. Students should go to school, work on “school” work, then come home and not do “school” work at home. This would increase the productivity and attitudes of students. I, for one, would be in a much better mood concerning school if I knew that I didn’t have to look forward to coming home to more school work.…

Secondly, homework to be efficient in terms of time required to demonstrate student learning is as simple and short as the student needs to make it, may it be a few sentences because the student grasps the concept quickly or a lengthy written explanation on what they do not know and questions they may need to ask. Thirdly, it promotes student ownership of learning by offering choices and being personally relevant because the student is reflecting on knowledge gained that is relevant to them (what they choose to draw from the material) and how it reflected their strengths and weaknesses and what they can improve upon. Fourthly, it instills a sense of competence because the student is accomplishing a homework assignment by themselves without outside help because what they learned comes from within themselves. Finally, it is aesthetically appealing, enjoyable and fun, because in a utopian system students could self-direct their homework; but in most cases, they are creating something that is designed, inspired, and driven by their…

My Declaration of Independence I am here today to announce my frustration with the amount of homework given on any day. The problem with all of the homework is that some people have other things to do, and may not have time to complete all of the given homework. I think it’s safe to say that the amount of homework is just a bit too much, and not completing all of it seriously can bring down some grades for people. People do not deserve to have homework in every class, almost every day.…

If these students were to be limited to the recommended measure of assignments the more likely they are succeed to in their classes and earn higher grades. I judge that we can all agree that homework is fairly boring and is not interesting. Students do not want to learn or work on something that doesn’t interest them. Also, they may not understand the concept of the topic, so they find it difficult and confusing. Some students lack time management and may have their priorities mixed up. Both of these flaws can interfere with the organization to do homework.…

There are so many reasons people are pro homework. People say “it helps them become smarter or helps them on test,” But there is a lack of evidence where it actually supports their claims, that it helps students at all especially at such a young age. with Alfie Khon “The positive effects of homework are largely mythical.”(Khon). It also seems that homework is being forced onto younger students more often than the older ones. I remember getting tons of homework in Elementary school, and not having the time to play outside, the stress, and my parents struggling to help me on problems I didn’t know.…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

Homework has been linked to achieving better results and better grades, so why are some schools banning it? Studies have shown the positive and negative effects of homework, and with a moderate amount, the positive effects outweigh the negative ones.
