Homework Should Be Banned “A Stanford researcher has found that students in high- achieving communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance and alienation from society” (Levy). Homework is thought to help improve test scores, but it actually lowers it. It also gives students health problems and increase stress. High school students should not receive homework because they have too many activities after school, it doesn’t improve test scores, and students receive extra anxiety and stress. High school student should not receive homework because after school activities take up time. Students spend an average of 10 to 65 hours per week on homework, which means they don’t have enough time to do extra activities. Students spend half of their week on homework. About 3 to 6% spend more than 20 hours on extracurricular activities. Yet students need to have extracurricular activities to get into a university in their future. They should be able to have at least 2/3 of their week to their friends, family and extracurricular activities. 43% of a group of 13 – 17 aged students says they spend their time after school on homework (Lyons). A day consists of 24 hours and a third of the day should be given to school and homework while a third of it should go to play. The last third should be given to sleep.
