For one hundred years in this country, homework has come and gone. It started in 1901 when the state of California abolished homework but then in the 1950’s there was once again pressure on the need of homework. One hundred years later, American students’ have homework. The effect and pressure of homework has crippled the average American student for a while now, nowhere to go to for comfort and understanding. We find ourselves exiled in our rooms for hours with no contact to the outside world. The world we were made to live in. In a sense we have come to our school to proceed down the path of loneliness and bedroom exilation. When the legislature of California was passing the law to abolish homework, they were passing a law to let students live the life they were meant to live, the passing of a law that guaranteed the American student their “unalienable rights” of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. We refuse to believe that there is only one destination to this path. We pray for this path to eventually branch into millions of destinations. As we walk this path that is the only thing we long for. We also walk this path to set an example for America that it isn’t too late, that the path can still be branched. There is time to fix this broken path for our generations and generations to come. Some in America might ask when the time is, the time is now. Now is the time to give our future working minds the chance to decide which path they want to walk. It would be fatal for many, if the nation refused to look at this situation and see a mirage of happiness and wanting, to see what they want to see instead of what is really there... an unhappy youth. 2015 is not an end but I would rather think of it as a beginning. There will be no tranquility until students are fully granted their constitutional
