Why Homework in Schools is Ineffective
Do you have a child in school? Many adults have children in school and have to sit down for 2 or 3 hours a night doing homework, causing a great inconvenience. In a study published in the journal of experimental education, “Research showed that excessive homework is associated with high stress levels, physical health problems and lack of balance in children 's lives”(Enayati). Many teens have after school jobs and simply do not have time to do a abundance of homework. It is recommended, students get at least 8-10 hours of sleep a night (Teens and Sleep). While this is true, many students do not get the recommended amount of sleep because they have sports, work, and an abundance of homework after school every night. Athletics and students social life does not leave much time for homework at night. It has been proven, homework does not help students retain information. Also, homework does not help students because it is easy to cheat on homework. Students are not truly learning anything if they do not do the work themselves. Students tend to be overly stressed with school, homework, and after school jobs. Students priorities, usually, do not leave time for much of a social life with family or friends. If schools would limit the amount of homework they gave, students would have more time to spend time with their family and friends. Students who do not have enough time to spend with their family or friend are, usually, more depressed.
