Homework is every student’s worst nightmare. Teachers who assign homework are not only bringing those nightmares to life, but also may be causing more harm than good. Everyday schoolwork is a must. There can be a limit however, because homework causes problems for both students and their families. Due to parental inadequacy, homework can lead to stress in the home, causing childhood obesity and lack of motivation; this will prohibit the teacher form seeing a students’ true potential in academics. School and homework are extremely taxing on students’ minds and their time therefore; child labor laws are to be considered. Most children go to their parents for guidance. Whenever parents are not able to give their counsel or wisdom, stress in the children and their parents will increase. Stress in the child, for fear of failure, and the parent, for fear of not being there for their young. This anxiety can put strains on the relationship between the child and his parent. For example, withdrawal from each other can cause a decrease in the bonding time needed for the child to actually gain a genuine personality. Statistics show that 8% of adolescents have anxiety beginning around age 6. (“Anxiety Disorders in Children and Adolescents.”) These anxiety disorders include but are certainly not limited to Attention Deficit Hyper-active Disorder and severe depression.
