Homework Is Beneficial In Middle Schools: Article Analysis

Decent Essays
Homework keeps students from doing after school activities, because we don't have time for both. In her article Sara Bennett states “Study after study shows that homework is not much more beneficial in middle school either. Even in high school, where there can be benefits, they start to decline when kids overload on homework” (3). This quote shows that having too much homework shows less benefits for the teens which is giving us less time to do other things. Teens need more time after school to be able to participate with other activities and we can't do that if we have a ton of homework to do. Since homework is already not beneficial for students, there is no need for students to keep doing it.

First of all, homework causes stress on students. We may as well just spend all day at school if we are having school at home anyways. Students should go to school, work on “school” work, then come home and not do “school” work at home. This would increase the productivity and attitudes of students. I, for one, would be in a much better mood concerning school if I knew that I didn’t have to look forward to coming home to more school work.…

If kids didn’t have to worry about getting certain assignments done for the next day, I do agree with Darter that, kids would have more time to be kids. In her article Darter refers to a study done at Duke University. The study showed that “all it does is negatively impact kids’ attitudes towards school, learning, and their parents(the homework enforcers).” This research shows, not proves, that homework does have an effect on studies ability to do well in…

In fact people get their homework done more because they have an opportunity to do it in school, and have to take little if anything home. Also it gives an opportunity for those who need help with a project to seek it during the day instead of after school when teachers probably want to get other things done. Students would also benefit from its continuation. Many enjoy the extra…

Preamble: students are being introduced to the adult life, forcing them extinction of the teenager. The reliance of an adult is being raised to our standards for today's teenagers, but could we continue to consider them teenagers if the individual is not aware of this life, being tied to the responsibility of completing homework, or in other words, work that could not be mastered in class? This requires us as students to write our own Declaration of Independence for the rest of the world to see and comprehend why we should become independent and perform equality to put not have to complete the work a teacher could not teach to the students. Declaration of Student Rights: We hold these truths to be self-evident and for us high school students to have no homework.…

My experience indicates that students get a lot of homework, but homework is needed to improve grades. The author's solution is unrealistic. Although many students wish homework is banned, homework is beneficial. I think homework gives students the opportunity to study and review material covered in the classroom. Abeles imply that homework should be banned.…

In the past, I have thought that grades were not essential since there would always be a school there for you next year. I did study, but never tried for the highest possible grade that I could have earned. My study habits were not the best they could have been. For example, when there was an exam coming up I would study only for a tiny amount of period, so I would have open time afterwards for something else. However, my goal, which started in 8th grade, was to join and succeed in the S.T.E.M. program at North County.…

The school board is a place where the staff go and have meeting about the school and how you can change it. A school board is a great thing to have at each school but sometimes they go overboard with the things they say. The school board plans to add one and a half hours to school each day. I disagree with this because we need time to do after school activities, it takes away from homework time and makes us more tired, causes more absences. When you have extra time at school it causes student to be bored which also causes students to be out of school a lot more.…

After school activities can be time consuming, therefore making it so that you will not be able to manage your homework. If you have activities that happen right after school, go to that activity and then do your homework when it’s over. If you have an activity that is one or two hours after school, stay at school, and do homework then, so it doesn’t pile up when you get home. In my experience, I have a sport starting at 5:30, but after school I stay so I can use the time that I have for homework so I don’t get home and still have to do all of it.…

I could actually have a life then instead of doing homework all day. I could participate in extracurricular activities like I used to when I participated in lacrosse, but now I can’t because my grades are slipping due to not finishing homework! I could do fun things instead of homework because it keeps me cooped up inside like a prisoner in a penitentiary cell and I hate it (“Too Much Homework, Too Little Time”, pg. 2)!” In conclusion, there are many reasons why students do not…

Time that can be better spent is with family and having fun participating in extracurricular activities. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. Also, homework allows teachers to pawn off their own teaching responsibilities to students and parents with hours of homework. Homework is not beneficial and it should be banned for students Kindergarten thru 8th…

There are so many reasons people are pro homework. People say “it helps them become smarter or helps them on test,” But there is a lack of evidence where it actually supports their claims, that it helps students at all especially at such a young age. with Alfie Khon “The positive effects of homework are largely mythical.”(Khon). It also seems that homework is being forced onto younger students more often than the older ones. I remember getting tons of homework in Elementary school, and not having the time to play outside, the stress, and my parents struggling to help me on problems I didn’t know.…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

Homework has been linked to achieving better results and better grades, so why are some schools banning it? Studies have shown the positive and negative effects of homework, and with a moderate amount, the positive effects outweigh the negative ones. Homework should not be banned, as it teaches discipline and time management skills, as well as supplements and accelerates learning. It is also needed in order to meet international education standards. Homework is important for numerous reasons, one of which being that it helps teach time management skills and discipline, especially in young children.…
