Value Of Homework Essay

Improved Essays
It was about 3 weeks into my freshman year of high school and I started getting alot of homework. I was used to my routine. I woke up in the morning, went to school, came home, and immediately went outside or went somewhere with my friends. I would come home from whatever activity I had and I would eat supper. By that time it was probably about 7 or 7:30. I would never really think about homework though. I put everything in front of that and I have no clue why. Whenever I would have a test to study for on the next day, I would wait till I got to that class to study for 5 minutes before taking the test. I would not get terrible grades, but I would never get good grades on tests either. So yeah, this is pretty much how the first part of my high …show more content…
They automatically took away my phone and my tv. Then they discussed how I supposedly never have any homework to bring home. They also said that they never see me studying for any tests at home. I immediately started throwing out excuses to them, but it was not working. They have never seen me get these grades before. I am usually a mostly A’s and some B’s student. They started to talk to me and they started listing possible punishments and things that could help me do better on tests and quizzes. They were also looking to see if there were any ways of being able to see if I have homework for that night. They were really unhappy with my grades. They had finally came up with a plan. They said that my phone was gone until they saw improvement in my study habits. They also said that after school, I have to get all of my homework done before going to hang out with friend or before I go to the golf course. Also every night before I go to bed I have to get at least 1 hour of studying done every single night. I was not very happy with the decisions they made at first because I knew that it would take up a lot of my time that I had away from school. Although, I was very excited to not have to be stressing about my grades all the time. I knew in the long run that I was going to see a tremendous amount of improvement on my tests and

I got a tutor for the days when I didn't have remedial classes. I started to submit my requirements, putting ahead math in particular before other subjects because I knew how much I needed it. My teacher accused me of not trying hard enough before and I felt so worthless because of it. I was trying my best already but I just didn't understand whenever she tried to explain the topic. There were many things that she did throughout the year that I did not agree to or find favourable, but I had no choice but to keep trying my best despite…

I realized that I needed to change the way I managed my time in order to maintain good grades and balance the work in all of my classes. Throughout my four years of high school I didn’t appreciate the daily schedule that had already been planned out for me, but I found myself missing this in my first few weeks in college. My high school was structured in a way where I would go to the same seven classes every day. In every class I knew to expect to have an assignment done for the following day of school, and I had little time to procrastinate homework assignments. Class sizes tended to be smaller, giving teachers the opportunity to learn the names and faces of the students in their class.…

My study methods didn’t prepare me for what was I was reading, the questions were worded differently and the more I read the more I doubted myself.…

Since moving to this new area really demoralized me I didn’t want to do anything in class but put my hood up and sleep. She inspired me and taught me that I could overcome my social obstacles that would also help me with my academics. Another teacher that really inspired me was my drafting class teacher Mr. Morales. At first I didn’t even know why I was in that class I never liked drafting and I just needed the credits. At first I would just skip all my classes and only show up to class about 2 days a week if that.…

Since I waited to the last second to do my homework every night, I became very stressed, which is not good for the brain. I am able to measure how hard senioritis has hit because I can compare it to my work ethics from last year. Senioritis is all about our attitudes towards school. Once I develop the correct attitude, avoiding senioritis will be a very attainable goal. I think this goal is realistic since I can control whether or not I have senioritis.…

This, most of all I need to conquer because if I don’t, I will surely fail. During high school I would say I was the worst procrastinator. If I did not get an assignment done in school, there was a very slim possibility that I would get it done at home. Luckily I was able to get most, if not all of my homework done at school. But if I did have to bring homework home most of the time I would be doing things like playing sports, lifting weights, hanging out with friends, or playing video games and the homework would not even make it out of my bag.…

Another thing I could have improved on during this school year was my dedication to the school year and my homework. For one, I never wanted to come to school, and therefore when i was here, I never focused and never wanted to do anything at all. Dedication is hard your senior year when all you can think about is the number of days you have left; the countdown is the best part of senior year. I could have also improved in my desire to do any work because none of it got done, and I have actually started to give up, and lose every sense of care in the world that I even had. There are so many other things that I could have improved in, but I just needed to set my mind to something and get it done, and I would have been…
