Value Of Homework Essay

It was about 3 weeks into my freshman year of high school and I started getting alot of homework. I was used to my routine. I woke up in the morning, went to school, came home, and immediately went outside or went somewhere with my friends. I would come home from whatever activity I had and I would eat supper. By that time it was probably about 7 or 7:30. I would never really think about homework though. I put everything in front of that and I have no clue why. Whenever I would have a test to study for on the next day, I would wait till I got to that class to study for 5 minutes before taking the test. I would not get terrible grades, but I would never get good grades on tests either. So yeah, this is pretty much how the first part of my high …show more content…
They automatically took away my phone and my tv. Then they discussed how I supposedly never have any homework to bring home. They also said that they never see me studying for any tests at home. I immediately started throwing out excuses to them, but it was not working. They have never seen me get these grades before. I am usually a mostly A’s and some B’s student. They started to talk to me and they started listing possible punishments and things that could help me do better on tests and quizzes. They were also looking to see if there were any ways of being able to see if I have homework for that night. They were really unhappy with my grades. They had finally came up with a plan. They said that my phone was gone until they saw improvement in my study habits. They also said that after school, I have to get all of my homework done before going to hang out with friend or before I go to the golf course. Also every night before I go to bed I have to get at least 1 hour of studying done every single night. I was not very happy with the decisions they made at first because I knew that it would take up a lot of my time that I had away from school. Although, I was very excited to not have to be stressing about my grades all the time. I knew in the long run that I was going to see a tremendous amount of improvement on my tests and

In the “Coming of Age” theme from the novel Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the World written by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, relates to the ways I have grown or changed since I graduated middle school. Here at Seaholm, on my second year I have learned and developed some new skills such as improving my work ethic, learning importance of friendships, and how I went out of my comfort zone throughout my first and second year at Seaholm. The value of a college degree is a dispute that is commonly contemplated, yet rarely answered. I will attempt to express my attitude towards college education, personally defined as an Associate’s Degree for returning adult students. In an effort to explain the greater benefits of a college degree despite the common rhetoric that it is not financially worthwhile, I have considered the positive and negative effects of doing so. I have examined the following articles, “Learning by Degrees and Live Chat With the Author,” “The Major and the Job Market, the dream and the reality,” and “In the Basement of the Ivory Tower,” to support my stance. When one maintains a desire to progress academically and an open-mindedness to educational demands in the…

I didn’t even ask any question, I just went to the kitchen table and took out all the work that I slipshod on and did them. An hour into the work my dad calls and tells me “ when you decide to lie and not do what you need to do, you won’t have nice things that you want in life you will be limited on what you can do and get because you have failed.” When we got off the phone I finished all the work and studied for the finals that was coming up. There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

It can consolidate the knowledge that students have already studied, train students' creativity, and develop students' intelligence. Moreover, it is very essential to require some homework in the teaching process. Butler (1987) states, “Homework is the time students spend outside the classroom in assigned activities to practice, reinforce or apply newly-acquired skills and knowledge and to learn necessary skills of independent study” (p.17). Most homework assigned by teachers is for practice and preparation purposes because instructional homework may be assigned to help students. Parents often have questions about why homework is assigned, how beneficial it is, and how they may best help their child complete homework.…

Homework has several benefits and is important to a child’s success. Specifically, homework can be beneficial to a student’s academic achievements. The use of daily homework assignments can help students better obtain information which has previously been taught. A student who is introduced to an idea during class, then given an assignment, allows them to practice and grasp a better understanding of the concept. The aid provided from homework then opens up more time for further learning in the classroom.…
