Thinking back on my education, I’m so blessed to have the background I do. Aside from preschool and kindergarten, homeschooling has been the basis for my learning experience. Beginning in first grade and continuing all the way through eighth grade, I would consider the schooling I had to fall under the Middle Class teaching style with an occasional affluent aspect here and there. I then began my high school years in a much more Affluent Professional and Executive Elite based schooling though a system called Classical Conversation. Both schooling styles, though different in many major ways, consisted of a basic fundamental that was a key element in my education. This being that both held a foundation of Christian beliefs. Looking into the details, let me explain why I classified my education as a combination of Middle Class, Affluent Professional, and Executive Elite. Though I was technically homeschooled through my primary education, it wasn’t done by the traditional means. My parents didn’t qualify themselves as the best teachers, and so …show more content…
Technically, I’m a senior in high school, but I 've started taking community college classes to get a jump start on the next leg of my educational journey. My background from primary school has helped me specifically with my Spanish class this term, where most of my grades rely on memorization and regurgitation for tests. Thanks to my Affluent and Elite learning, my mind has already had a taste of some of the materials that come up in my other classes, such as the reading of Plato 's Allegory of the Cave. Of course, if my previous education 's only goal was to prepare me for future education, reflecting on that background would be somewhat pointless. However, the education I have had has also prepared me for so many things in life. You know one can be grateful for an education they find use for

We as students have a choice to better ourselves it’s all depends on where you want to end up. School have improved so much since (Anyon 1980) article; for the fact that educators expect for us to raise the bar. To have what we have now for many of the schools in today’s society we are given a lot more than what we had. Just to think about it what education maybe like when our children are in school; and even when our children’s, children are in school. ” Such research could have as a product the further elucidation of complex but not readily apparent connections between everyday activity in schools and classrooms and the unequal structure of economic relationships in which we work and live.”…

According to John Taylor Gatto, author of “Against Schools,” the public education system “cripples” the children of today. In the reading, Gatto claims that the public education system causes children to become bored with themselves, to obey the way of the school and its teachers, and lacks to teach them the ability to deal with issues that go on in the real world, outside of school. Moreover, Jean Anyon, author of “From Social Class and Hidden Curriculum of Work,” compares and contrasts the different social class school systems. This includes, working class, middle class, affluent professional, and executive elite. As Anyon goes into detail about the interactions in the classroom between the teachers and the students, it appears that the higher the social class, the better the education provided is.…

Growing up, I was taught at all different kinds of schools and places. The first school I was taught at was a private faith-centered school, called Saint Matthews Catholic School. Saint Matthews was an elementary school that went up to the 6th grade. In Saint Matthews, the majority of students were “white,” Hispanic, upper middle class, high class, and (not surprisingly) Catholic. Although I loved going to Saint Matthews, I could not deny that it was a very segregated place.…

In the essay Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work by Jean Anyon, she explores how different social classes influence education. She achieves this by observing five different 5th grade classrooms that she divided into the categories of “Working Class,” “Middle Class,” “Affluence Professional,” and “Executive Elite.” A “Working Class” school is a school that values order and gives the teacher complete control over the students. These classrooms mainly work on copying and rote memorization without knowing the ‘how’ or ‘why’ behind what they are asked to do. An “Executive Elite” school is a school that values analytical and comparative thinking and they work on analyzing things and applying or comparing them to current situations or scenarios.…

Homeschooling, also known as home education, involves the education of children at home instead of receiving education at a traditional private or public school. According to Bauman (2011), many students are schooled at home and the number in the United States is growing at 15 to 20 percent per year. It is a system in which parents prefer their children to be educated at home and argue that it is more beneficial for them. There are those who advocate homeschooling, while there are some skeptics about homeschooling as well. Homeschooling is becoming very popular and many see it as being a bad idea due to the fact that teachers in traditional schools are better qualified due to years of training, the child’s socialization skills will be negatively…

Home Schooling has been out of the public’s eye and with it growing in the past decade, I decided I would bring a new spotlight onto the subject. Through this long journey many new ideas and views have been brought to the eyes of the readers. When I first started writing this paper I was very one minded on the subject of homeschooling. The first time I started asking questions I thought to myself all these people do is just sit on their couch and do nothing but watch tv. They are just antisocial people that say away from the public because they are scared of being in awkward situations.…

Education: Which method is better? One of the biggest decisions a parent has to make for their child is what method of education will benefit their child the most. Some parents think that their child will learn the most if they teach them themselves, but other parents are either working, or know that they do not have the ability to teach their child. Because students spend a good amount of time in school, it is extremely important for parents to choose a method of education that fits their child best.…
