After a long time at war, we were finally trying to sail home to Ithaca, but Zeus did not agree and sent a storm towards us. Odysseus tried to keep us safe from the raging storm and docked us somewhere safe from the wind. I managed to stay quiet for about half of the first day we were docked, but I soon began to get anxious and hungry. “Odysseus, when do you think we can eat something?” I asked.
Odysseus said he didn’t know, but hopefully it would be soon. I went to take a nap but I simply could not fall asleep. I felt very nostalgic; I missed my family a lot. Idella, my lovely wife, must be missing me too. Hopefully she’s doing okay, I thought, I cannot wait to see her again. We stayed there for what seemed like eternity, but in reality

“Odysseus,” I said, “I’m very hungry. Do you think we could eat before we explore?”
Odysseus pondered this for a moment before responding, “Sure, Iskander, but you must be one of the ones who go.” “Of course!” I quickly accepted and got ready to eat.
“Where exactly are we?” asked Aiolos, one of my close friends on the shop. “The island of the Lotus-Eaters,” responded Odysseus. After lunch Odysseus rounded three of us up. It was me, Aiolos, and my least favorite person - Fons. Fons didn’t do anything particular to make me dislike him, he was just very annoying. I groaned at his name.
“Shut up and be more mature, Iskander,” Odysseus scolded me.
I apologized and tried to tolerate Fons’ presence.
“You three are to go investigate the natives that live here and try to befriend them. Whatever you do, do NOT eat the lotus flower, okay?” said Odysseus; mainly to me I’m sure. I sheepishly smiled and promised not to touch the flowers. Odysseus sent us off and we began walking. Aiolos and I were talking the whole time, mainly telling stories from back home. I told him all about Idella and our twin daughters, Irene and Ilene. They would have been three years old and I missed them like

Instead of asking Arete and Alkinoos to help him find passage home, Odysseus commands them to “grant me passage”. In using this word choice, Homer shows that Odysseus has enough hubris to believe that he has the right to order royalty around in their own home, and to assume that his personal happiness is worth the possibility of losing a ship to them in their current situation. All through the poem Odysseus demonstrates his arrogance and hypocrisy, but in his plea to Arete, Odysseus makes it apparent that he believes his own goals are more important than the goals of…

The Odyssey, Odysseus demonstrates that virtue can be acquired through tribulation and that sometimes one must endure to gain what is significant in life. Odysseus has everything he could desire with Calypso: everlasting youth, wealth, luxury, and sex. Still he yearns for the trials of a mortal life back at home with his family. Here, Homer showcases an aspect of human nature; that humans will chose the more difficult path, especially when fighting for something that means a great deal to them such as family and a sense of home. As Calypso tells Odysseus that he is free to leave, she finds him with his “life draining away in homesickness” (V, 153).…
