Introduction According to an ABC7 I-Team Investigation, as of July 30, 2015, there is “An estimated 140,000 homeless people live in the city including thousands of public school students in shelters, in tents, in parks or just in whatever place they can find across Chicago.” Homelessness is an impactful issue not only among the communities of chicago but neighborhoods all over the world. Helping to end global issues, homelessness among them, can start with an easy solution. For example, making a simple, thoughtful, small care package is a beginning to the end of vagabondage. For my 4th quarter community action plan, Evan Chen and I did a recreation of an idea I found on the internet called “blessing bags for the homeless” which is basically …show more content…
First, we browsed the internet and pinterest looking for an idea of what to do for my project. Then, I came across an idea named “blessing bags for the homeless” where these people made small care packages with useful stuff that homeless people can use. So, we decided that this idea was what we were going to do. After that, we decided to plan out what we were going to buy, by looking at the dollar tree website, and seeing how much it would cost so that we knew exactly how much we each needed to pay since we were going to split the cost. Since we were still trying to successfully complete the project affordably, we decided to purchase the items at the dollar tree. We reached a total expected cost of $17.00 excluding tax. With the weather, and what conditions a homeless person has in mind, we agreed we would get the following items per paper bag… One brush, One bag of trail mix, One chapstick, Two combs, One water bottle, and mints. In addition to the items in each bag we would also include a different inspirational quote in each bag. So, we agreed that Evan would bring in his share of the money and that same day I would purchase the supplies we needed for six bags at the dollar tree. After I purchased the items from the dollar tree, I packed the brown paper bags with the supplies. However, I never got the chance to distribute the …show more content…
I did my project because if it helps someone it’ll make me feel as if I made a difference for someone. Even though, I didn’t hand the bags out yet, I already did the majority of the work. What I did was I made the six care packages for homeless people with the affordably materials from the dollar tree. Evan and I had made the ideal bag that included major key factors, a food item, a drink item, hygiene items, and a health item. These items are ideal for a small bag because they fit and even though we couldn't fit other stuff that’s vital for life, the small stuff helps too. Overall, the design cycle was used in our project when we determined the items we would put in the bag given to six homeless

I was sponsored by my husband and he loved the idea and came along, sponsored by his parents (who are regular volunteers at Warm Blessings). The night was definitely a night to remember. We were furnished boxes by Warm Blessings, Inc. Nice boxes! Boxes that fit washers, ranges and refrigerators, not boxes that someone would typically find in a dumpster. We were furnished with a soup line that may be easily accessible to the homeless but ours was really close and also over-stocked.…

My project goal is to ensure every student has a meal to celebrate with for a Thanksgiving dinner this year. I have been in contact with local shelters and supermarkets in my town. Through contact with them, I will be able to provide each family with a holiday meal: a ham, vegetables (including green beans and potatoes), macaroni and cheese, rolls, and other canned goods. The outpour of support to help me achieve my goal has been amazing. I plan to continue this project every year and make it a tradition at Coosa High School.…

In the late 1930s, the Work Projects Administration, a resulting program from President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal project, began interviewing former slaves living in Indiana. These interviews attempt to “preserve the personal experience stories of formal slaves” and convey them to the general public (Baker, 4). Adhering to an issued set of suggestions and inquisitions, the interviews share stylistic and written features, yet many stories still portray various insights to what life had in store for an enslaved individual. The Chairperson and Professor of English at Indiana State University, Robert L. Baker acted as the editor of Homeless, Friendless, and Penniless and brought to life the informative and astute stories of the once enslaved inhabitants of Indiana.…

In my opinion, James O’connell – the president of BHCHP organization (Boston healthcare for the homeless people) – is one of the few people who really helps (or try to help) poor people and tries not just to fix their problems temporarily and put short-run bandages, but also tries to help them get out of poverty and show them future, which is not oriented on living in the street and thinking to get a bed for that night or have dinner (being oriented on just one day), but looking forward in the future. He, himself, had a hard time to become “a street doctor”. At first, he wasn’t even able to ask any medical questions. This was completely different from what he’s been taught in medical school.…

Bright and early 12 seniors gathered at the Church of Christ to pack shoeboxes full of treasures for Operation Christmas Child. The shoeboxes are processed and delivered by the Samaritan's Purse Organization to impoverished children around the world as Christmas gifts. The “packing party” was organized by Pamela Stewart, and was attended by kids and teens from the Triple Vision group, and friends of Pamela, in addition to the seniors. The first step in packing a box was to chose the approximate age and gender of the child the box would be given to. Next, the volunteers moved down the line shopping from bins overflowing with necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and washcloths, as well as school supplies and clothes.…

The steadily increasing rate of homelessness in Chicago is a social justice issue that is difficult to ignore. It is nearly impossible to walk down Michigan Avenue without noticing the countless shivering, hungry people begging for spare change. But the people we see on our everyday route to school and work are only a very small portion of the thousands of people suffering throughout the city. The National Health Care for the Homeless Council defines homelessness as “…an individual without permanent housing who may live on the streets; in a shelter, mission, single room occupancy facilities, abandoned building or vehicle; or in any other instable or non-permanent situation”(1). Chicagoans may think they know about the issue of homelessness…
