Homelessness
Homelessness in one of the major problems in America. Over half a million people are homeless. One quarter of the homeless people are children. This is the result of people having a low paying job or they are jobless. The lack of affordable housing is one of the causes of homelessness. In order to reduce homelessness there should be lower income housing that people can afford. (Quigley, 2014)
One of the major reasons of homelessness is lack of affordable housing. Some people work jobs and they are getting paid minimum wage. So they can’t afford to keep up with the rent. Make sure the clothes that are being donated are decent looking. We wouldn’t want anybody to give us worn out looking clothes. Don’t give nobody nothing that you wouldn’t want to wear. We can also donate computers to the homeless shelters. Computers are very expensive, so if you have a computer that is still working and you don’t need it give it the shelter. The homeless can use these computers to help them apply to jobs. That’s another thing we can encourage people to hire homeless people so they can get a job. Giving them a job can help them get back on their feet. Give them some kits that can help during bad weather. For an example, the community can make kits that provide blankets, coats, hats, socks, and etc. During the winter the homeless can stay warm with these things I just listed. PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) is a program for the homeless. This program provides financial assistance to states to support services for homeless individuals who have serious mental illness and substance abuse. It also provides outreach services, screening and diagnostic treatment services, and habilitation and rehabilitation services. Services in Supportive Housing is a program that prevent and reduce chronic homelessness by funding services. This program is for people that have a substance abuse disorder and experiencing homelessness. These two housing assistance programs will help the homeless find a home and help them with their financial problems. (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services)
Essentially, The best way to help the homeless is to provide them with shelter, good quality health care, and mental help in the US. This solution may not be the cheapest, but it is effective due to the large amount of homeless people. People who decide to help and reach out to the homeless can make a difference in the world.
