Suggesting that individuals that have many siblings may not have the full support needed because of economic reasons such as a parent working all the time to support all the children or due to not being eligible for aid or not having an education to provide them a higher paying job. If you take another step back to childhood you can look at the attachment theory. For those homeless youth that did not have a secure attachment to their parents or caregivers. Their experiences may have left them insecure, making it difficult for them to make social relationships and have trouble with anxiety making it difficult to get good grades or “avoidant” where they have poor social and stress coping skills (Kirst-Ashman, 2014). Reviewing another article written by Greg Owens, talks about the changes from 1984 to current day, some of the reasons we have homelessness. What he has learned is that “homelessness has become more complex” and children are becoming homeless (Owen, 2015). They offer assistance in many ways to families and individuals that need help with a safe place to seek shelter, food, clothing, basic medical and dental assistance and transportation (Hands, 2016). They serve over 20,000 people a month with various services. Their campus has not only a place to receive a hot meal, in which volunteers serve 1000 per day, but individuals can receive free groceries, wash their clothes, take a shower, see a doctor or dentist, look for clothing and children will be supervised while they receive counselling which is all free. The shelter consists of 100 apartment units, in which can house about 600 people, mostly families and children (Hands, 2016). I learned by talking with Carol a volunteer that helps in serving meals, the shelter is in high demand and end up waiting (Carol, 2016). Some of the residents are there six months while they receive support services to get them back on their feet. Depending upon on their condition or situation, will dictate how they will determine a rejection. In most cases, they are able to assist them with some type of assistance. Caring and Sharing Hands is run on Christian beliefs and have nuns to help restore their faith and love.
