Every street you turn down there is at least 1 or 2 homeless people living literally in a box. “In a city of 8.4 million people, more than 52,000 homeless men, women and children sleep in homeless shelters and at least 3,200 more sleep on the streets and subways in the dead of winter. This means that one in every 152 New Yorkers is currently homeless. (T.B.M)” Thankfully there are shelters that take in hundreds of people and families everyday. The only problem is, while living in the shelter it is hard to be working. There is a bus that brings you to a certain town, or city at 8AM, and it comes to pick everyone up around 6PM. You have to set up a schedule with your employer to be able to work around that time schedule. Also the DSS (Department of Social Services) doesn’t give out a lot to people making over a certain amount of money. As my boyfriend was working for Stop n’ Shop we went down to the DSS and were trying to get food stamps and money for him so he can at least food shop for himself. He was making $15,000 a year and only got accepted for $15 a month in food stamps, which is not enough money for him since he has to pay other bills and was only making $130 a
