With homelessness on the rise, there have been many solutions and programs proposed and put in place in order to resolve the growing conflict. Typically, the main goal of these solutions is to shelter affected individuals, while also providing necessities and helpful services such as food and health care. Programs also focus on providing opportunities for reincorporation back into society, while ensuring that homeless individuals are able to live independently and self-sustainably in the future. At the moment, the two major programs put in place are housing and shelters as well as government organizations and legislature.

Considering that homelessness is often an economic issue, many suffering from it are unable to pay rent due to sudden or chronic financial situation. Therefore, there are organizations put in place to financially aid those experiencing or at risk for homelessness. One of these programs is Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). TANF is a government program whose goal is to help financially unstable families with children avoid homelessness in the long term. This agency works with families by providing rent assistance for a short periods of time in order to help these economically struggling families quickly escape or eliminate the risk for homelessness. Also, TANF provides housing for these families by negotiating with landlords to supply a less expensive permanent residence, and in the process they help the parents obtain employment opportunities via services. Employment is essential for these families, as it provides the family with a stable income which can be used to pay expenses once the temporary rent services have expired (“Making Effective Use of TANF.”). Another financial assistance program used in the fight against homelessness is the Continuum of Care program (CoC), whose goal is to end homelessness in America. The CoC funds nonprofits and governments in their efforts to house the homeless. Other major goals of the CoC include helping homeless individuals and families access other homeless aid programs, and encouraging them to be independent and self-sufficient in society (“Continuum of Care (CoC) Program.”).
