Homelessness Process Analysis

The homelessness project captures the admission process that homeless individuals and families must go through, in order to become admitted. This process is called the initial client intake, where an extensive form was completed by me. The client intake assessment gathers information about the clients that would be used later on to create a case management plan. This case manager completed the client intake with a family of three, consisting of a single mother and two children. The client intake form will be presented as documented evidence of my work. The form is significant because it assess the client’s biopsychosocial. The process was overwhelming, but I was able to conduct a self reflection and learn from it. I was really nervous about completing my first client intake assessment, because I was not ready. I realized that I needed to start spending more time learning agency forms. I had only observed one staff member in completing the form. I felt like I was not trained enough to go over the agency policies and procedures. There were questions that went unanswered. Utilizing toys to keep the kids occupied worked well. I was surprised at how patient the clients were during the assessment. After I completed the client intake process, I was more comfortable. I wanted to practice completing more intakes. I was able to practice skills like interviewing and creating professional boundaries. My strengths are adequate oral and written communication and good listening skills. The assessment allowed me to gain more experience engaging with this population. A challenge of being a social worker is the huge amount of paperwork that comes with the job. The biggest lesson I learned was being organized and prepared helps the process go
