Advertisements for Hawaii are commonly showing the misconception of paradise. This is used so that tourists believe that Hawaii is some sort of magical place that has no problems, but in fact there are the same problems that the rest of the world faces and some problems are even worse. In Hawaii the locals are involved with more than just going to the beach, hiking up a volcano, or whatever the common stereotypes might be. Some issues that are not shown are traffic issues, Homelessness, as well as cost of living. The latter is a problem for the entire state, because It affects people of all ages who live in Hawaii. A lot has to do with low income, high housing prices/ renting expenses, and just being able to maintain a living with all products being expensive. Hawaii tax rates are not as high as some states and with the new Rail Transit adding to the taxes people are starting to feel pain from that as well. The Honolulu Rail Transit is a project to alleviate traffic problems it runs from Kapolei to Downtown Honolulu.
The limited space brings an economic concept of why the prices are so high in Hawaii. The prices are high because the demand for the houses are higher than the amount of housing in the market. The demand is high because the image of living in paradise really catches the eye of rich people around the world. The common conception is that Hawaii would be a perfect place to live because when people experience the touristic variation of Hawaiian paradise they would believe it would be like that all the …show more content…
This is from housing which is needed to live in to everyday items like household supplies to consumables like just foods and such. I feel that the topic of cost of living is a problem that needs to be fixed otherwise the rate at which the state is a paradise will soon turn into a state that has now become a nightmare for people who continue to live here. I feel the need to speak up and help a change of pace to where the cost of living is taking us. Cost of living in my opinion is like one big economic issue where the demand to live in Hawaii is high so the cost of living is high if we start to decrease that demand then the cost of living will start to decline. Another way to decrease the cost of living would be by attempting to be a sustainable state by doing so decrease the amount of oils being shipped in for energy and resort to alternative green energy that way the gas prices will go down and prices for everyday goods start to decrease. I believe that if we start fixing one problem at a time the effects will be like knocking down a bunch of
