This refers to the people living in their vehicles, storage units or friends couches or in other words provisionally accommodated. These people are finding places to stay and dealing with there current situation and not being seen by others. About 1 in 5 people are living in vehicles in Los Angeles today and around 1.6 million people have been in emergency shelters in the past year. People living in there vehicles feel anxious and stressed out constantly and experience many issues with this situation. Firstly it is illegal to sleep in your vehicle on public roads so it is hard to find place to park your vehicles without waking up to a citation. Secondly there is the issue of paying the fees for the vehicles such as tax and insurance which can also lead to citations and possible repossession of the car. There have been acts implemented to try and help these people such as the safe parking program where churches and business allow people to park in there parking lots overnight so they can have a less stressful nights sleep and not have to worry about being woken up and told to move. Some shelters occupy over a 100 beds which are full every night and people are getting turned away. There are waiting lists for beds and sometimes these lists can take up to 45 days long and which in the mean time you are having to find somewhere to stay or having to live on the streets. Another issue we have is that we are running out of funds to support the shelters and are not able to open up new ones or find places for people to stay ,so we cannot help the growing amount of people in need.
