The effect of homelessness affects everyone; however, children, in particular, are more affected by the situation. Some effects of homelessness among children in the shelter system are; bullying, aggression, low self-esteem, withdraws, anxiety, depression, and milestone developmental issues. These behaviors are often misinterpreted by their parents as a normal child development. These behaviors are often misinterpreted by the parent due to lack of knowledge and education. Another effect of homelessness among children is poor academic performance due to the instability. Other causes that have led to such increment in homelessness are mental issues and drug dependency. Children that are not in a stable and secure environment are at risk of developing insecurities and behavior issues.
