Homeless Youth Community Analysis

In 2013, 1.6 million children were homeless or had experienced homelessness in the United States. Children are the future. When children are homeless, they do not get to experience a good education. If children lack knowledge, then what does that mean about the future of America? We need to give these children and all children the education, housing, and safety they deserve. Homeless youth need help with problems at home, abuse, and education. Statistics show that 46% of runaway youth were physically abused, 38% emotionally abused, and 17% were sexually abused. This is very stressful to these teens and children. “While 87% of homeless children are enrolled in school, only 77% attend school regularly”(Education). Also, 75% of those will drop out of school! Plus, ½ of runaways/homeless youth are LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender). The National Conference of State Legislature says that homeless youth have a greater risk of depression, anxiety, suicide, poor health, and low self-esteem(Homeless and). School is overall the best home a homeless child can get, but rejection makes homeless youth more vulnerable to abuse and bullying. One of the programs is on the radio informing you of the issue of homeless youth. Another is by drafting new publications so schools can understand to let homeless children get an education. They have increased the amount of houses for homeless people in Sacramento. The NAEHCY also provide scholarships for homeless children!
