Homeless populations are most prevalent in urban areas that have high costs of living. A study released revealed the fact that approximately 745,000 people across the United States were without housing during the winter, more than 40% did not have access to any form of shelter. The large and growing number of homeless people in the United States continues to be a major crisis that has not been solved. The Government needs to increase the availability of affordable housing and social services to homeless populations and anyone facing homelessness. “The United States’ current homelessness policies overlook the causes of the problems. One solution to homelessness is more new affordable housing plans. New programs can be put in place of old ones to distribute revenue from building smaller shelters and buy large apartment complexes to house instead. An emphasis should be on the issue of homelessness because it has become so prevalent across our nation. Nearly one-third of all children live in poverty. “Homelessness is an issue that impacts both rich and poor countries around the world, although the majority of nations agree that the homelessness deserves careful attention and significant relief funding, national governments often cannot afford the proper measures pf caring for their homeless populations, and shelters cannot contend with the sheer volume of homeless people in need of assistance. Vacant apartment buildings could be opened for the homeless to stay in to have an address to gain employment. Money could be taken that is being used to set up so many smaller shelters to set up larger ones, and volunteering a little time to serve dinners to these people and to help build homes for the homeless makes for a wholesome community. A little of anything will go a long way. Homelessness is a big problem in our country today, yet there are minimal programs set up to assist them. Working together to help those who are less fortunate is important because if it were you or someone you knew would expect someone to help. As a nation we should do our best to help the homeless
