Homeless People: Act Of Kindness

Decent Essays
#2015WeGiveBack, got started because there was a homeless lady that I would see every time I go to Starbucks. I later talked to the ECU Police and one the barista at Starbucks to learn more about her story. So from there I figure I would reach out to my circle of business owns to challenge them to do an act of kindness as well.
For my act of kindness I teamed up with a few people to give the lady a backpack full of things that she could use. The backpack was full of hygiene products, snacks, gift cards and clothes. We did all of this within less than a week. I took the backpack to Starbucks and asked them to give her the book bag. It was important to me that my act of kindness was anonymous. I was very nervous what if she didn’t need

The one thing that really struck me in the video was something that one of the homeless guys Nathaniel Mccray said. He said that he was a part of something called tent city. During my senior year in high school, for my civil engineering and architecture project, the theme was shelter. My team decided to focus on the residence and tent city, a group of homeless people that have learned to live self sufficiently amongst each other in their own environment.…

I use to work with a girl who was homeless and she was living out of her friends closet just to have somewhere to sleep at night. She didn’t know how long she would get to stay there so I bought her a sleeping bag, a blanket, and a pillow incase she had to sleep outside again or just in case she didn’t have anything to sleep with at night. She was so happy to receive the gifts from me and seeing her appreciation made me realize, what seems like a little gift to you is a huge need for someone…

I hope people but not because I pity them that because I know where they've been, because I walked in their shoes. Maybe not exactly the same, maybe the details or tweaked a little and maybe one of us has it worse off than the other but nonetheless you help people because you want to. I remember one day I was in the thrift store and there was a little girl and her older sister and her mom was fine with buying the younger one all these nice clothes but the older one can even have one shirt that she wanted at this time I was probably only 13 years old but even then even without knowing what it felt like to not have the money to pay for something I didn't know how it felt to not feel the same, to not feel equal as others so as she walked away I proceeded to grab that shirt bring it to the front and pay for it in secrecy. I put in a bag and right after they walked out the door I ran out to them and I said hey, I think you forgot a bag they acted confused because I could've swore they got everything…

To begin, in my community I have come to respect those who help others in food pantries and in special needs schools through personal experience. One day my mom and I took a new route to my grandparents house and we came across the RCS Food Pantry. The next day we pulled up and talked to this sweet lady and she said that we could help package food for the homeless, so every Monday we would go and help out, it was a touching experience to see the look the homeless gave us when we gave them the food. One man I talked to was in the military and wasn't able to get a job because of his PTSD, it was sad the way he ended up but I vowed to help in the ways I knew how.…

Mark Twain once said “the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why” (Twain, ND). I found out why when I was 19, pregnant and homeless living on the streets of New York City. I knew I had a purposed and that there had to be something more to life than the cards I was given. I believe change starts with one and that is why I decided that it will be my life’s mission to help end homelessness and be a service to other people.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

Homeless People Panhandling Panhandling should be illegal because you can’t always trust someone on the streets. Panhandling should not be allowed because some of the homeless will eventually going to rely on us for money so they don’t have to work. Panhandlers should also be prohibited because once the homeless receive the money you have no control over what the money is spent on. Just give the homeless food or a nice smile to make them feel valued. Sometimes panhandlers take advantage of tourists on busy days.…

I have been fortunate enough to live a life where I have everything I need to live comfortably.…

There’s nothing better than the feeling you get when you know that you have helped someone a great big deal. That’s what I felt when I helped out at the Midnight Mission, a program devoted to meeting the needs of hundreds of homeless people in Detroit. The Oasis, located on Woodward ave, Highland Park Michigan it’s the oldest continuously operating human services organization in the Michigan area. They have their own building and facilities, all designed to serve and support the poverty-stricken men, women, and children of the greater Michigan.
