ovservation was made while I was with my friend and we were walking to somewhere in
Brooklyn. A supposedly homeless person asked us for spare change and I told him I don’t have
any. My friend was a bit surprised, not by my reaponse but the fact that I responded at all. She
found it weird that I took time to explain. This is not to make a judgement about my friend or to
imply that I am some saint for talking to the homeless but her reaction reminded me of how i’ve
noticed a lot of people tend to either to do one of two things when approached by the homeless,
they either give money or ignore them completely. Everyone has their reasons for their behavior
