Our club is the Homeless Helpers. We are a group of high school students based out of our high school. Our club is working toward lowering homelessness in the DMV by giving out food and clothes and spreading awareness. We will go into D.C. and other cities with a high population of homeless people and provide food and clothes. Our primary place that we’ll be working at is at our high school, but we will go to cities in the DMV to try to lower the amount of homelessness. We would meet twice a week; one day for planning, and the other for volunteering and preparing. There are six people in the club so far but anyone is welcome to join.

Before embarking on my high school journey at Sayreville War Memorial High School I was told to join clubs. Sophomore year I attended the September SADD meeting. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions and it is a club that encourages students to confront the daily risks of living in the world today. The advisor, Ms. Corrales, would always pick an issue in society for each meeting and provide us with the best tools to go about handling the issue. During my sophomore year, she invited me to the NJ Regional Conference with our executive board.…

Homeless People Panhandling Panhandling should be illegal because you can’t always trust someone on the streets. Panhandling should not be allowed because some of the homeless will eventually going to rely on us for money so they don’t have to work. Panhandlers should also be prohibited because once the homeless receive the money you have no control over what the money is spent on. Just give the homeless food or a nice smile to make them feel valued. Sometimes panhandlers take advantage of tourists on busy days.…

I really like your “A Tour of homelessness” intervention. Homelessness is an increasing public health issue. It is reported that on a single night in January 2015, 564,708 people were experiencing homelessness.1 Due to the poor living conditions and limited access to healthcare, homeless people are more susceptible to various communicable diseases and infections. Thus, increasing the awareness of the different communities towards the dire need of addressing the homelessness problem is important. Taking the community residents through life of a homeless person is a good start.…

Street Outreach/Homeless Youth – as I examine our groups implementation plans, I see a very clear picture of what we want to achieve per the FOA. We have some great ideas on how to provide the services needed to the homeless youth population, inputs, activities, and outputs. However, it is still a little fuzzy on how we are going to measure the right side if the logic model – Outcomes, short, medium, and long-term due to the referrals we will be allocating out to our partnered agencies. Along with that, it is unclear on how we will be collecting the data needed to meet the FOA expectations while relying on so many agencies to report reliable honest data.…

While there are more than a few groups of people who experience homelessness in the United States and other parts of the world different ways, their homelessness is usually characterized by lack of stable housing coupled with extreme poverty (Henslin, 2013). I realized this after reading the author’s research concerning the homeless population in the United States. However, in my career as a human services professional, I would like to work with the mentally ill and the runaways. The mentally ill are people who’re rendered homeless upon discharge from mental hospitals, or rather persons with mental illnesses who become homeless due to lack of a family or lack of treatment for their problems. The first possible intervention that I would undertake…

When I see a homeless person in the streets, I feel pity for them. Everytime I see one, I honestly always hand them a dollar or two. I know a dollar or two is not much of a help, but it’s better than not giving anything at all. Some people would argue that if you hand them money they would just spend it on a cigarette or a beer. However, not all homeless make the wrong choices, some actually beg for money to buy food in order to survive.…

Homeless people have become an issue because they don’t know how they are going to survive the next day. When I saw the picture, it made me think about people who are homeless, and how they are going to find their next meal, and are going to find a place to sleep. I think the author wants people to think about homeless people, and the problems they are facing every day. To understand the homeless issue is finding out why, how, and how we going to solve the homeless issue. The author really wanted people to be informed about what goes with homeless people, and we should find a way to solve this issue.…
