What special needs do homeless children face? Homeless students have many problems to overcome like acquiring clothing and materials for school, health issues, hunger, or the ability to get to school on time if at all. It is our job as educators to try and lessen their burden as much as possible. First, we should make sure the student can stay enrolled in school by getting the school and family involved with a local shelter. This should also help keep the number of absences to a minimal. The school and the teacher should help provide support to the student and his or her family through counseling and educational programs.
