In the United States about four million people experience homelessness each year. The number of homeless children ranges from 800,000 to two million. Recent study shows that one in fifty children in the United States is homeless. About 40% of the homeless population is families with children, which is also the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. With nowhere to go they're forced to sleep in parks, under bridges, in cars or a shelter (Overview of Homelessness In America).
Homelessness has become a big issue all over the world. Homelessness has been one of the top issues humans face today. People can be homeless and still maintain a job and have a car, but just not have a stable environment to go to every night. Some may even dress nice and have nice things, but has nowhere to sleep at night. People overlook homelessness just because someone has a smile on their face and appears to be okay doesn’t mean that everything is okay. You never know what somebody is going through. Homelessness has no face. Children of homeless families suffer as well, being that they still have to go to school. Their parents have to try to make it as normal as they can for the children,

There are health issues, being that there isn’t a stable home environment, families health conditions are poor, leading to higher risks of infections and mental health issues. Children also face hard times with school. They may have difficulty attending school due to the fact that they may lack transportation, proof of address, and clothing and school supplies. Lastly, homelessness can break up families. Separation of families may be caused by policies of shelters; also children may be placed in foster care until the parents find a stable place to live.
