Homelessness has become a problem throughout many years in Philadelphia. Many of those individuals are homeless due to their drug addictions. They go day by day with a sign to inform others about the absence of shelter, food, and clothing. Even though many of those individuals refuse to go into a shelter, there are many agencies around the area to provide for those people in need. For example, Project home on 2826 W Diamond Street, is a non-profit organization that empowers individuals to break the cycle of homelessness through cheaper housing, education, health care and employment. Aids or hepatitis can be transmitted through the needles, use to inject cocaine, heroin, meth, morphine, oxycodone, and more. Aids and hepatitis are both serious threats to the substance abuse population. The dependence for the drug, overrules the risk for diseases, which increases the chances of that individual dying. I believe an early detection test should always be given to someone with a drug addiction. At the Mazzoni Center, free HIV and other STD testing are given out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday. Everything is confidential and also there are counseling services
