Homeland Security and Our Critical Infrastructure
As with most things involved with Homeland Security, the events of September 11, 2001, changed the way America deals with its National Security. After all, our way of life was changed forever, and not for the best. Following the events of September 11, 2001, President Bush created the Department of Homeland Security. The purpose of the Department of Homeland Security is to protect and defend the citizens and the national critical infrastructure of the United States of America, against both enemies foreign and domestic. As we all know, since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have ended the United States is attempting to draw back troops and cut the defense spending budget nearly in half, if you don’t believe me than join the military and you will see and feel the funding cuts. This is all very true, except for certain units within the Military, these units belong to the CBRNE enterprise system. These units were created under the direction of the Department Homeland Security and the President of The United States. These units are the Weapons of Mass Destruction – Civil Support Teams (WMD-CST), CBRN Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP), and the Homeland Response Force (HRF). All three of these specialty units have an increased budget and spending allocations, because of the risk management formula that was previously discussed. It is important to remember that protecting the homeland from terrorism is extremely expensive and time sensitive. That is all the more reason to comprehend the importance of the risk management formula.
