Topic 1: What are the capabilities and limitations of intelligence in supporting homeland security efforts?
This paper will examine the capabilities and limitations of homeland securities intelligence community. The intelligence community (IC) consist of local law enforcement, federal organizations, and other organizations that strive to investigate and monitor activities that pose a threat towards the United States and their own communities.
Local law enforcement or Intelligence-led policing (ILP) is “a new dimension of community policing, building on tactics and methodologies during years of community policing experimentation." (USDOJ, 2014) This type of intelligence is important when combating terrorism and other threats against the homeland. …show more content…
These centers help to keep everyone informed and connected with the up to date information needed to know who, what, where, and potentially why these threats are happening. Without these centers in place we would be stuck with getting information the old fashion way of mail or faxes that cause costly delays and missed information. The ease of transfer of information has kept the threat of terrorism at a lower rate, considering the alternative we may see with the lack of information transfer.
Next, we examine the Federal level of protection and the methods used. The Interagency Assessment and Coordination Group (ITACG) was established in 2007, this ultimately would become the Joint Counterterrorism Assessment Team (JCAT). (ITACG, 2014) “The ITACG was created to help DHS, NCTC, FBI, and other agencies produce federally coordinated, terrorism-related information products tailored to the needs of state, local, tribal governments and private sector partners,” (ITACG, …show more content…
Utilizing the proper groups to battle specific wars or crimes will allow a stronger front that will ultimately protect the citizens of the United States. We have seen many changes throughout the years epically after 9/11 that has increasingly made our country safer than ever before. Now that we have become complacent with the way things are a broad we are seeing that the Homeland defense is causing issues from within. Law enforcement officers are losing respect for individuals, as individuals are losing respect towards all types of public official’s. Without proper interventions we will see that our great nation will be placed in a state of destruction and cause additional fighting against each other rather than fighting against those trying to harm us from outside our
