Homecoming Relays

Decent Essays
This year I was captain along with another Senior. We have been given more responsibilities this year than the captains have been given in the past. We were put in charge of making the relays for the relay meet, designing the t-shirts for the team, and choosing our teams for the Homecoming Relays. This responsibility meant that we had to put aside our wants and needs, to put the team before ourselves. One of the important lessons that leadership teaches is putting the team before the individual. When we were making up the relays for the relay meet we wanted to make sure that all the swimmers had four events. We had four girls that only had three events but they did not all specialize in the same events. One of the girls was a breaststroker

Leading that group of people has taught me how to effectively participate in a team. Sometimes people need a leader to tell them what to do and where to go. However, there are times where other people have better ideas than my own and it is important to listen and to acknowledge those ideas. The most important part of any team is figuring out how to work together as a team, which means that everyone needs to understand how their strengths and weaknesses help the team. Another way I had to be a leader was showing her to take practice seriously because in a few years she would be on the high school team. My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

In grade 11 I had the done sweater of the swim team, taking the reasonability to make the Rick Hasen swim team look good, In the grade 12 the swim was unorganized, there for i was able to receive captaincy of the team, which then allowed me to create proper swim sets, and teach individuals certain strokes, this then created a more organized team which then made the swimmers perform at a higher level at Ropsaa. Another example is, when I am coaching my students, I use proper techniques, and proper methods to train my swimmer, when doing so this allows my swimmers to perform better at swim meets. Creating a bond with the swimmers not only allowed me to be a good coach but also to be a friend for my swimmer, where they would open to talk to me about things that go on in there life.…

In the past four years, I have had many experiences with family, friends and an extreme amount of clubs, activities, and home life occasions I am involved in. But in all honesty sports have taught me a lot about people, life and even myself. I have been a part of many teams in my lifetime and played several abstract sports, but at Summit Academy High School the sports are very unique. There are mixed attitudes towards the teams, players and coaches that you would not see at any other school. But I like to call them obstacles and challenges.…

This year New Trier Girls Swimming and Diving is doing a different form of leadership. We have a leadership counsel so more people can speak for the team based on what they see. Not just four people, in the same group, who all see the same thing. I am proud to be on the leadership counsel because it is a way to bridge the gap between the swimmers, especially the younger ones, and coaches. Having a leadership counsel gives…

Watching the ball leave my teammate’s stick, fly through the air, and land in my stick was only the beginning of my love for lacrosse. Now, every time I shoot the ball and it strikes the back of the net, I remember the first time I played lacrosse and I am extremely grateful for it. I knew from the moment I picked up a stick, that I had a future and I would need to work extremely hard to become the best player I could be. Although I was not able to catch or throw my first time practicing, I kept pushing myself and evolved into the strong player I am today. Even in situations where a leader in unnecessary, I still tried to asset myself among my teammates. Up to the end of sophomore year, I saw my need to be a leader as advantageous; being a leader meant respect from peers. Freshmen year was the tumultuous waves during a storm; it was stress-filled and contained unsuspected challenges. By the time sophomore year came around, the waves had quelled and the waves that were hurled my way were solved in a more mature manner.…
