If anyone ever asked me what my favorite memory from high school was, it would most likely be related to twirling a flag in my school’s flagline. Even though the band members constantly denied us from actually being in the band, I always thought we made a great addition to the marching band and added a little extra spunk to it! I was on flagline throughout all my four years in high school. In fact, I was a natural at twirling and I was the only freshman who made the line my first year! I was a leader to my fellow twirlers and then became the captain during my senior year.…

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Over two dozen cities and towns claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it’s difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. Regardless of the exact date or location of its origins, one thing is clear – Memorial Day was borne out of the Civil War and a desire to honor our dead.…

Was closing campus housing prior to Parade Day an ethical decision on behalf of the University of Scranton administration? The standard students see it as the university punishing all students for the acts of only a few; not getting the opportunity to participate in a cultural tradition; along with students being customers of the university and losing out on the college experience. The administration viewed this as a way for the University to avoid excessive drinking; lewd behavior; violence; vandalism; sexual promiscuity; and many more things from happening on campus. Bentham’s Hedonistic Calculation takes into account both the pleasure and the pain of all those involved in the situation, by using it, I will be able to determine whether closing campus causes more happiness or unhappiness.…
